The Best Sewing Machine

Updated on April 14, 2014

Fond Memories

My mother owned an old, wooden sewing machine when I was growing up. It always sat at the end of our hallway and, at the age of 5, it seemed so huge and monstrous to me, but so stunning at the same time. Even at that young age, I can vividly remember watching my mother while she would sew on it. I was so fascinated! I loved watching the thread being sewn into the fabric so beautifully and at such a fast speed. My mother would make quilt after quilt for everyone in the family and we all still use those quilts to this day.

My mother would sit me up on her lap and she would explain to me what and why she was sewing something a certain way. She also showed me how the sewing machine worked, how to wind the bobbin, thread the machine, and that she had to push a pedal with her foot to make it run. I was so amazed and now those are such fond memories for me.

I eventually began sewing myself when I was 8 years old and I still do to this day. Every time that I sew something, I think of sitting on my mother's lap and watching her. I have a 1 year old daughter now and she sits on my lap while I sew. I can't wait until the day that I can start teaching her how to sew just like my mother taught me.

For the past few years I have been sewing with a wonderful sewing machine with multiple capabilities. My sister sewed a baby blanket with my machine and said that it is much better quality than her $400 sewing machine! "What sewing machine am I using?" you ask. Well, it is the Brother XR9500PRW and I couldn't imagine using anything different.

What makes this the best sewing machine?

Well, I'm glad you asked!

I highly recommend the Brother XR9500PRW because, as I noted earlier, this sewing machine is perfect for beginning sewers and expert seamstress alike. It is very simple to set up and use with its step-by-step instructions provided in the manual. The Brother XR9500PRW also has steps printed on its side showing how to thread the machine as well as a diagram that explains how to load the bobbin. Another great feature is that you can set the speed adjustment switch to sew at a slower pace, which is very helpful if a child is learning how to sew. I am teaching my teenage niece how to sew on the lowest speed and she has picked it up without any problems.

The Brother XR9500PRW sewing machine is also powerful and strong. I was able to sew several layers of thick fabric without any difficulty. It's also versatile, which makes it great for many craft projects as well as your general sewing needs. From making aprons, pillows and curtains to the simple task of hemming pants and skirts.

I love how the working area is brightly lit, allowing you to better see when sewing on dark fabric. This sewing machine runs very smooth and, surprisingly, very quiet. I love that aspect of it seeing how I do the majority of my sewing when my daughter is taking a nap or down for the night. I purchased the Brother XR9500PRW years ago and it is still running like it is brand new. I also gave this sewing machine to my mother one Christmas and she absolutely adores every aspect of it. Especially the larger table that is included which is wonderful for sewing quilts.

.

The only obstacle I had when I first purchased this machine was the automatic threader. I was so used to threading by hand, so it was a little difficult for me at first. With time, it did get much easier, and I now love this feature!

If you enjoy sewing, it is not only relaxing and useful; it's also a great way to create fond memories with your loved ones that you will treasure forever. So, if you are looking for a sewing machine that is of high quality, then the Brother XR9500PRW is the perfect choice!
